As a Victoria local, have you even noticed the Iyengar Yoga Centre sign while walking Antique Row?
Perhaps, while waiting in line for brunch at The Blue Fox Cafe, you saw our colourful sandwich board with pictures of yoga poses?
You may already know our yoga school which has been in Victoria since 1978! We have been at our 919 Fort Street location between Quadra and Vancouver above the Blue Fox in Harris Green since 2001, and offer daily classes (holidays notwithstanding) and workshops regularly.
If you live, work, bike and stroll downtown, then this is a convenient location to learn and practice yoga. We offer classes for a wide range of people.
This includes office workers, who are busy with both work and home obligations, and who find it hard to fit in a yoga class. Fortunately, our school offers mid-day and after work classes. If your Monday to Friday schedule is such that you absolutely cannot fit in a weekday class, we also have Saturday and Sunday classes.
We are on major bus routes, have bike racks nearby as well as convenient parking however the commissionaires downtown are VERY good at their jobs, so plug that meter, please.
So if you’re sitting at your desk right now, aware that your back hurts or your neck is a bit stiff, then know that yoga can be effective at improving your body awareness so that you can begin to improve your sitting posture. If you’re reading this on your phone, noticing the strain in your back or hips, then know that the range of yoga poses taught in a typical class will help loosen up and/or strengthen the parts of your body that need it.
If you read or listen to your phone while walking have you considered changing your focus to your surroundings, the sounds and the people around you? Yoga can improve your mental awareness so that you can better focus at a single task, or manage your stress when juggling several tasks, and even help you to ‘let go’ when you’re at a place and time that doesn’t require that tension and anxiety that seems to come with modern life.
