Our Centre

We offer one of the most comprehensive programs of Iyengar Yoga in North America. Our classes are taught by experienced and well-trained teachers.

Sparked by Shirley Daventry French’s interest and leadership in Iyengar Yoga, our not for profit centre took root in 1976. Since then, Shirley’s teachings and writing have inspired countless students and teachers to travel to Pune, India to study with BKS Iyengar and his family. In 2001 the centre moved to Fort Street to open the first dedicated yoga studio in Victoria. We survived the pandemic and continue to nurture, build and strengthen our community through the teachings of BKS Iyengar.

WHAT IS IYENGAR YOGA

BKS Iyengar (1918-2014) taught yoga around the world for 80 years and was the author of over 20 books translated into various languages. Today, there are certified Iyengar Yoga teachers in more than 40 countries. The international Iyengar Yoga Teacher Certification mark is a guarantee of teaching excellence. Our teaching is marked by precision in language, attention to detail, and the use of props and sequencing to tone the whole body by integrating mobility, stability, strength and alignment in the poses. Our classes welcome students of all ages.
